Maleny’s clubs celebrated in style at Tranquil Park Resort on Saturday evening, at the MDSRC Awards Dinner. An important event on Maleny’s calendar, the evening recognised a wide array of achievements by community clubs and their members – but not before guest speaker, Olympic weightlifter Jade Sharp inspired everyone with her presentation.
Describing her life long journey, and not leaving out pit falls and a few escapades, Jade spoke of what it took to become successful at an elite level.
Mother of 2 Jade said “I am not special – but I had a dream that began when I was 5 – and anyone can do it, if you really want to try. Maleny, this small town, has blown me away with the outstanding nominations I’ve heard tonight. You have produced champions at a national level, and the level of commitment by volunteers to your community is amazing”.
John May’s music underscored a roll call by Maleny Show Charity Princess Stacey Bentley, who worked in tandem with MC Simon Denver and presenters from Rotary, Lions, Quota and Maleny Commerce in introducing the nominees.
Maleny District Sport and Recreation Club organises and hosts the awards that have since 2009, revived a traditional dinner held in Maleny in the 1920’s.
With MP Andrew Powell and Councillor Jenny McKay as special guests, the winners were announced.
