“Transforming Health, Wellness and Resilience through Sport and Recreation”

Created and incorporated in 2008, Maleny District Sport & Recreation Club Inc.

is a volunteer umbrella organisation formed to

  • support and promote member clubs’ endeavours

  • continue to ensure sport and recreational facilities are developed for all in Maleny

  • work with district clubs to assist in representing their needs to all tiers of government

  • identify and apply for funding for upgraded and new district facilities

  • create and maintain sport and recreational facilities on the Maleny Community Precinct

60 local sport, service, arts and recreational clubs are affiliated with MDSRC.

Since 2008 MDSRC volunteers have published a weekly electronic “Community Billboard”, the MDSRC Newsletter – with news supplied by member clubs. Contacts, community events, performance arts news, training days for various sports, fund-raisers and much more are included. The newsletter is estimated to reach 3500 plus readers weekly, circulating throughout Maleny’s large network of volunteer organisations. You can read copies of it at this link.

MDSRC hosts and organises annually:

  • The Maleny Awards Dinner that recognises

the achievements of the district’s outstanding individuals, teams, clubs and administrators

  • Andrew Powell’s Charity Cricket Match, with funds generated donated to the Lung Foundation of Australia

  • The Aussie Day Expo at Maleny Showgrounds, a Showcase for community groups that combines with the Australia Day New Citizen’s Ceremony and the Apex Club of Maleny’s “Big Aussie Day” Breakfast.

In 2015 MDSRC was granted a lease by the Sunshine Coast Council over 6.4 hectares of land on the Maleny Community Precinct. The leased area, Maleny Sports Park, is zoned for sport and community activities, and business planning for the staged development of sport and recreational facilities is currently underway. MDSRC works in partnership with the Sunshine Coast Council and its member clubs in the development of Maleny Sports Park to deliver quality sporting and recreational facilities for the district that maximise the land use for the people of Maleny and surrounds – now and into the future.

The club committee meets each month at the MDSRC Clubhouse, that is located at the bottom of Parklands Drive (off Porters Lane) on the Maleny Community Precinct.
