Precinct News Update as at 25.01.2010

M.D.S.A.R.C. Inc Update as at January 25th, 2010 Maleny Community Precinct master plan group gets to work The Maleny Community Precinct master plan is steadily taking shape following last week’s meeting when the working group, the planning consultants and council officers, defined the key issues that will be resolved during the master planning process. Sunshine Coast Division five councillor Jenny McKay said that the meeting, which was held in high spirits, was a good opportunity to lay all the issues out on the table. “The meeting focused on identifying the key issues that will be resolved during the master planning process,” Cr McKay said. “These included road access to the site, determining the best use of the available flat land and maintaining environmental buffers around the wetlands and the creeks within the precinct. “Also on the list is the need to determine the best location for Barung Landcare, whether or not one or two sporting clubhouses will be required, and how the development will be staged. “Now that these issues have been identified, the working group, council and the consultants can all work together towards a solution.” Cr Jenny McKay said that she is very happy that the process has started but recognises that there is a long way to go. “This is a very complex project with lots of high expectations,” Cr McKay said. “However, everything is moving along nicely and by working together cooperatively I predict we can overcome the issues we have identified.” A final master plan for the precinct is expected to be presented to council by June 2010.
